Rolly Polly

One of my biggest fears about being a working mom was the thought of missing one of Addison’s big milestones or “firsts” of anything. Well, today I am thankful for technology. One of the things we really liked about her daycare is that cameras are in the room so you can go online anytime and watch your kid. Anytime I am missing her during the day, I login and watch her for a few minutes. Its been helpful in helping me miss her less.

Today I logged in at 12:50, and luckily I got to see her roll over for the first time. We’ve been practicing at home, but she seemed fearful to throw her leg over to complete the roll. Within one minute of the teacher putting her on the mat, I saw Addison begin twisting her torso, but this time, her right leg came out of no where and completed the flip!

Now this leads me to the second best part of her daycare having video capability – I get to share it with you! Here are the stills of her FIRST time rolling over. The first pic is the start of the roll, the second is the leg kick (go, leg, go) and the third is her face plant into the mat. Isn’t she a cute little tumbleweed?

Catch Up!

I must admit that I have gotten a little behind on the blog. On August 1st, I returned to work which means that Addison began daycare. She is doing great. The teachers say that each day she is adjusting more and more. Luckily her room has four video cameras which allows me to check on her whenever I want. Let’s just say that I don’t mind conference calls anymore because I can watch her.

The anticipation of starting work and daycare caused me to get a little behind on posts. What can I say? I wanted to spend every possible moment with her. Here are some pictures from July including Addison’s first Cubs’ game, posing in her WVU cheerleading outfit, tummy time and holding onto her toy.

What’s With the Blog Name?

So you may wonder why we are calling our blog, Our Little Sandbox. Well, the funny thing is that Billy and I both despise the sand. We are in trouble if our little girl turns out to love the beach. I will volunteer her daddy to help build the sandcastles…or maybe that’s where her aunts and uncles come in?

Sandbox is a song by our favorite band, Widespread Panic. Ironically, we’ve never heard them play the song live because the last time they played it was in 2001. So it’s definitely a song that we want to see them play one day but odds are against it. Besides that we’ve seen Widespread Panic 45 times together, the lyrics are what make the song relevant to us.

The first verse that is relevant to us is:

I’m in love with a girl that I met in the bar
She’s brought me this far, yeah
And all I did was say
Can I get you a drink

Well, that’s how it all started. Who meets their spouse in a bar? Yep, we do. The other verse I like is the first:

What a place to hang out is a sandbox
Bury things you don’t want
And dig up things you do want
And the sun is on your face

I think this is about making life what you want it. If you focus on the positive and not dwell on the negative, you will always be happy no matter what life throws at you. And this is why we are calling our website, Our Little Sandbox.
